Burton Car Company, a Dutch automotive brand, has been taken over by the French 2CV Mehari Club Cassis.
The founders of Burton, the brothers Dimitri and Iwan Göbel, will remain involved in the brand as shareholders and also in future creative and technical projects.
The two companies combine their passion for classic cars from the heritage of the French car manufacturer Citroën. Burton's most famous product is the Burton Sportscar. The Sportscar is a classic 2-seater 'home-built' roadster on the chassis of the Citroën 2CV. More than 1,400 units have been sold since its introduction in 2001.
The company is from Zutphen, founded in 1993, and has been producing innovative parts for the Citroën 2CV since 2008. The company is internationally active in more than a hundred countries and has 40 employees.
The French 2CV Mehari Club Cassis started restoring and personalizing the Citroën Mehari in 1982. In 1998, Citroën sold its original molds and tooling to the company in order to continue manufacturing and supplying Mehari parts. The same happened in 2000 for the parts of the famous 2CV.
The two companies will remain independent within the newly formed alliance, which employs more than 100 people. The collaboration does offer advantages in terms of the economy of scale, innovative strength, and technical expertise. New joint projects are also being launched, particularly in the field of electric drives for classic cars.
