gategroup has agreed to acquire a 75% stake in KLM Catering Services Schiphol, the in-house catering division of KLM.
The transaction represents a carve-out, separating the catering activities from KLM’s core airline operations. The divestment strengthens KLM’s financial position and supports its strategic focus on core aviation activities as part of its “Back on Track” programme.
KLM Catering Services prepares approximately 55,000 meals per day and employs around 1,300 staff. KLM will retain a 25% minority stake, ensuring continued involvement in onboard catering quality and service.
The transaction includes the separation of systems, processes and operations, followed by integration into gategroup’s global catering platform. As part of the partnership, KLM and gategroup plan to develop a new, sustainable catering facility at Schiphol.
