Koninklijke Grolsch has acquired 100% of Gulpener Bierbrouwerij, expanding its existing 15% shareholding to full ownership.
The transaction marks the next phase of a relationship that began in 1996. Gulpener will continue to operate from its brewery in Gulpen while maintaining its identity, local roots and commitment to sustainable brewing.
Founded in 1825, Gulpener has remained in the hands of the Rutten family for eight generations and has built a strong reputation for its regional sourcing strategy and sustainable brewing practices. The brewery is the only Dutch brewer to hold B Corp certification.
For Grolsch, the acquisition strengthens its portfolio in the specialty beer and non-alcoholic beverages segment, adding brands including Gulpener, Château Neubourg, Gerardus Kloosterbier, Korenwolf and BATU Kombucha. The combination provides Gulpener with greater scale and access to Grolsch's distribution network while preserving the brewery's character, management and local presence.
